Our Gastronomica evening on Thursday 10 December 2009 is a Terra Madre day celebration, bringing together diverse food cultures at a communal table in central London.
We welcome a representation from Azerbaijan, an ancient and unique food culture. A women's group will prepare some sample food for the group to taste. Find out more about Azerbaijani food, drink and traditions at the Christmas Slow Food Market on the Southbank, London, 19 - 22 December. Also you can join us at a special Azerbaijani tasting on Saturday 19 December.
Carlo Petrini, founder of the International Slow Food Movement, says:
"Events like this are the future of Terra Madre. I hope that this will be one more step towards the objective to strengthen the knots of the network that we are building, in order to see changes for the better in food production on this planet".
What is Terra Madre? It is:
- a network of food communities, each committed to producing quality food in a responsible, sustainable way
- a major bi-annual conference held in Torino, Italy intended to foster discussion and introduce innovative concepts in the field of food, gastronomy, globalization, economics
Terra Madre is coordinated by the Slow Food organization.
This event is £15 and places MUST be booked via email through Alistair Cameron firstname.lastname@example.org.
