Meet and eat at Market Quarter Wednesday 13 July 18:30

Come and enjoy tasty food and a drink and meet Slow Food members and those interested in a sustainable food system. Market Quarter is the current venue for Slow Food London’s monthly “meet and greet” gatherings. The next one is  Wednesday 13 July.

 As part of Slow Food Week, “Market Quarter” in Belgravia hosted a tasting of cheese and wine on Thursday 23 June. Slow Food members attended from as far afield as Redhill and Greenwich, as well as central London, and non-members from the local area.

The “Ark of Taste” Artisan Somerset Cheddars were like three siblings - a strong family resemblance, differentiated by three distinctive personality traits – buttery, sharpness and complex maturity in different proportions: Westcombe Farm, Montgomery’s and Keen’s..

Three Italian Presidium cheeses were also tasted: Bitto from Lombardy, and Castelmagno and Lo Puy from Piemonte.

A Barbera d’Asti 2009 “La Vi” was a discovery from the launch of “Slow Wine” in English earlier this year, and was a good match for the cheeses.

Slow Cheese & Slow Wine tasting Thursday 23 June day & evening sessions

On Slow Food Day between 12:00-18:00, Market Quarter will have samples to taste of cheese from the English "Ark of Taste" and Italian Presidia for a fiver that's right, £5  pay on the day.
 
Subject to availability, the tasty bovine goodnesses  are 3 Artisan Somerset Cheddars, Bitto Storico from Lombardy and Castelmagno from Piemonte, and some suitable wines to match.

18:30-20:00 the same tasting will be available, and we hope Slow Food members will be on hand to tell you more about our activities in London.

Dinner at Brawn Tuesday 19 July 19:00

One of the top 10 openings of last year Brawn received rave reviews and became an immediate favourite with food bloggers and critics alike. Faye Maschler in the Evening Standard gave it 5/5 stars and said that: ‘if I could, I would eat and drink there every day’.

Brawn very much fits in with the Slow Food ethos, they work within the season and with an eager eye for provenance, working as much as possible with local producers and suppliers. The food is honest and simple with a respect for tradition.

Slow Food supper at Brawn starts at 19:00 (finish at 21:00) and they’ve generously offered us a £25 three course set menu which includes a glass of natural wine. It’s going to be a meaty evening with some of their most popular dishes including the pork rillette, pigs trotters, bitter leaves & sauce gribiche, Boudin Noir & spring vegetables and includes dessert. Served in an informal, tapas style you’ll be able to taste all of the dishes.

Come along to feast on the wonderful food at Brawn, to experience one of London’s most popular restaurants and meet like minded Slow Food folk.

Join Shane Holland, Chair of Slow Food London, for a trip around London's most exciting food market, for slow and seasonal food shopping as part of our Slow Food Week events.    The tour is expected to last 2 hours, and is free (though, of course, you may be tempted to shop as you stroll!).

Join us for an informal greet, eat and meet. Chat to new and old members and find out  about slow food. All welcome.

Market Quarter opened in December 2010 offering a carefully chosen range of European food and drink - from Pata Negra ham and other charcuterie to quality chocolates, pates, caviar, truffles, bread and fresh vegetables, as well as a good selection of cheeses – French, Spanish and finest British of course! In the cellar there is a growing collection of interesting wines, including some organic and biodynamic examples.
