Que is actually Californian for Barbeque.
Join us at Duke’s Brew and Que in Haggerston, an Anglo-American special relationship as iconic as that of Churchill and Roosevelt – or Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow! It houses its own Beavertown Brewery creating an innovative range of British real ales. And the famous food is a selection of authentically American smoked pork or beef rib platters. Opening this year, it has already earned 5***** from View London and 4****from Time Out and is attracting throngs of folk inspired by this creative combination. The Duke's beef ribs are featured in Time Out's top 10 dishes in London.
Enjoy a full meal plus 4 halves of its own beers - for £27 (£31 non-members).
There's pork or beef ribs plus one side dish. Sides are seasoned fries, fried pickle and okra, macaroni cheese, creamed spinach, salad. The vegetarian option is grilled Portobello mushroom and halloumi burger. The dessert option will be either a fruit-laden Hackney mess or a chocolate brownie.
The four beers to complement the meal will be golden ale, a bitter, an IPA and the Duke’s already celebrated dark Smog Rocket. Other drinks can be ordered from the bar.
The two owner-operators Logan Plant and Byron Knight will explain their success. Logan is the Anglo half of the special relationship. He’s a real ale apostle and devotes himself to the brewing. Byron is a highly-experienced Angeleno restaurateur who’s also worked in New York and Paris . To quote Time Out the food is “done very well. ...perfect”.
The most striking feature of the venue is the Kitchen and Brew Area, near which the Slow Food London group will be seated. The open kitchen has a Char Broiler and Smoker so we’ll see and smell the sizzling. The Brew area has a gleamingly impressive range of steel equipment mash tun, kettle and liquor tank. Barley and hop fragrances from brewing blend with meat aromas.
