Iain Liddell

Another short word about the Kékfrankos/Blaufränkisch wine entry above. The Neusiedlersee (called Fertő-tó in Hungarian: the lake straddles the boundary) is just east of Sopron, which has its own wine-producing area. Haydnophiles will also know of the area as the home of the Esterhazy Palace of Fertőd, and if you needed an excuse to go, then next year will see a huge Haydn festival (he died in 1809). The whole area is very accessible from Vienna and Bratislava (Slovakia), but Sopron is a very pleasant base, and quite a bit less expensive than Vienna.
