Week 10: (mostly) Slow in London by our community manager
Looks like another busy week ahead with nights out. Autumn is in the air boo hoo. As soon as that chill is in the morning and evening air I want pasta and hot meals, not mozzarella and salads.
Monday 25 August 2014
The usual breakfast of a boiled egg with or without E5 Bakehouse sourdough toast, and a cup of Colombian coffee with raw milk.
More coffee.
Bought chips for lunch. Yes, chips will do nicely to deal with last night's alcohol.
Out for a movie. Beer. A paneer wrap and veg samosa.
Tuesday
The usual breakfast.
A banana, an iced coffee.
Home made sandwich with cheddar, gherkins, tomato, seasoning.
Out for dinner in Bermondsey. I chose quinoa kievs (slightly stunned to see this on a menu), caramelised onion bread and Poutine - no - I didn't know what this is either. It's chips, cheese curds, gravy, jalepeños, delicious. Wikipedia says it's a common Canadian dish, originating in Quebec. The chef had missed a trick by not toasting the quinoa first to bring out its nutty flavour. I'm still minded to tell him.
Wednesday
The usual breakfast.
A banana, an iced coffee.
Home made sandwich with cheddar, gherkins, tomato, sliced blue potatoes, seasoning.
Vietnamese vegie platter summer rolls, tofu curry with egg fried rice. Fresh and tasty. Such generous serves I got a doggy bag. That's a dinner later this week sorted then.
Fish'n'chips with a friend for lunch
Various Japanese onigiri and sushi while waiting in line for an outdoor cinema screening. Your own food and drink was not permitted. Inside: a delicious cocktail: Gordon's gin, rose syrip, lychee juice, Peychaud's bitters, rose petals.
Friday
The usual breakfast.
Toastie with tuna and melted cheese.
Left over Vietnamese tofu curry with egg fried rice. And a less than delightful experience - jump ahead now if you've a weak stomach. I had a left over veg samosa too so I heated it up. Had finished the curry. I absent mindedly bit into the samosa while watching tv, chewed and swallowed - gagged - looked at the rest of the samosa and was running for the nearest sink before I could even think about it. Yes, that last samosa was not veg. It was meat. And it was the only food to be regurgitated, thankfully the rest stayed down. I haven't eaten meat for a long time and am much calmer about it than I used to be. In fact I now think sometimes if I did start to crave meat I'd eat it, the best I could afford, and not that often. But I never crave it. Ever. Only fish sometimes. So I was quite surprised by my own instant gagging reaction - perhaps it was something about the texture of the meat too, and it was strongly flavoured. Anyway. It was a bit unpleasant but really only a #firstworldproblems.
A couple of Daim bars.
1/2 a tin of baked beans on toast and a cup of coffee.
A cappuccino. At a picnic, my home made quinoa, fetta, parsley and tomato salad plus other salads and a beer.
An omelette filled with a generous amount of grated cheddar and caramelised yellow courgette and tomato. Of course Sriracha sauce.
A chocolate bar. Some crackers with cheddar.
Sunday
The usual breakfast.
Having a lazy day before the job hunting begins again. My contract was unfortunately curtailed due to internal promotion into the team. Sigh. If you need an inspired and creative digital strategist and community manager I'm here.
Sat in the park eating grapes so sweet they made me wince. There's a Turkish run shop near me that has everything from halva and halloumi to fresh fruit'n'veg. They get these sultana grapes that are the complete opposite of supermarkets' tasteless, seedless, waterlogged monstrosities. These grapes are sweet, smaller and so, so satisfying.
I had a yellow veg dinner: courgette & caulliflour, Kalamata olives, tomato paste, pasta shells, grated cheddar and seasoning.
Later I had a chocolate bar and later still some grapes with cheddar.
