Week 12: (mostly) Slow in London by our community manager
Love the coloured cauliflour and other veg in September. I'm equally smitten between yellow and purple cauliflour.
The usual breakfast of a boiled egg with or without E5 Bakehouse sourdough toast, and a cup of Colombian coffee with raw milk.
Lunch -mmm mm my favourite mozzarella buffalo with red and yellow tomatoes, seasoning.
Roasted some purple cauliflour and yellow courgettes to make more Ottolenghi. (I bought a whole cauliflour on Saturday so I have to use it all). In the photo that's black lava salt from Iceland and black pepper.
Probably a Daim bar.
Tuesday
The usual breakfast. More coffee.
Lunch was a spicy Caribbean vegie pattie with chilli tomato sauce.
More Ottolenghi.
A pint of London lager at our AGM. Lots of inspiring news for you soon. So enjoyed cycling home through London under the light of the super moon. Thank you nature.
The last of the American mini bread snacks. A Daim bar.
Wednesday
The usual breakfast. More coffee.
Lunch was a Caribbean vegie pattie.
Roasted some purple cauliflour, yellow courgettes, tomatoes, purple potatoes (remembered I had some hiding in a cupboard) and garlic. I threw in some grated cheddar at the end. Added this to spelt fusilli with some tomato paste. The roasted garlic added a lot of flavour but I also added Sirarcha sauce.
Daim bar.
Thursday
The usual breakfast.
A piece of toast with hommous.
The old standby staple: the toasted sandwich with fried halloumi, egg, gherkin, tomatoes, mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce.
I'd bought Lindt's Cherry Intense chocolate which I hadn't tried before. Sadly I was disappointed. A rare failure from the usually impeccable Lindt.
Friday
The usual breakfast.
A delicious Monmouth coffee where I treated myself to some new beans at Borough market, and a great fish wrap.
The staple toasted sandwich with fried halloumi, egg, gherkin, tomatoes, mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce. I had hommous too which livened it up.
I think I'm almost over my Daim bar addiction but I still had one.
Saturday
The usual breakfast.
My regular shopping at Broadway Market: organic eggs, Hackney Wild from the nearby E5 Bakehouse, a buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, halloumi. I also planned on bying some fresh made gnocchi but the stall had sold out. Later I got some from a supermarket.
Sat in the park eating Turkish grapes (bought at a local Turkish run store) so sweet they made me wince. These sultana grapes that are the complete opposite of supermarkets' tasteless, seedless, waterlogged monstrosities. These grapes are sweet, smaller and so, so satisfying.
Hommous, check. Kettle crisps, check. Lager, check. Ready for Doctor Who, check.
I'd roasted the rest of the purple cauliflour with some garlic. At Broadway I'd had to restrain myself from buying another coloured cauliflour - green - because I need a break! With the gnocchi I threw in Kalamata olives, the cauliflour and garlic, grated cheese and creme fraiche so it would sauce up. Unfortunately I used too many olives and then found myself picking them out while I was eating. This reminds me that I need to taste my food more while cooking, I'm not very good at that.
I'm still eating my way through the Lindt Cherry (not) Intense. Found a Daim bar in the cupboard too. Almost over them. Almost.
Sunday
The usual breakfast.
Out and about: smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, some beers, Japanese for dinner: salmon teriyaki. I was so glad that the fish was sustainable and they used free range chicken too.
Back home, some grapes with cheddar. And there was another Daim bar in the cupboard. Not anymore.
