Week 13: (mostly) Slow in London by our community manager
I honestly don't miss bacon. I think if I did I'd just eat some. I always tell people that haloumi is the vegetarian's bacon. I love it. And in my pre-vegetarian days I did like bacon. And as a child, fritz. Grilled fritz. Mmm. (Oh I looked it up. Oh. I see. Fritz is Devon sausage).
Monday
The usual breakfast of a boiled egg with or without E5 Bakehouse sourdough toast, and a cup of Colombian coffee with raw milk.
Lunch - my favourite mozzarella buffalo with red and yellow tomatoes, seasoning.
I was feeling lazy and fed up with job hunting so I got a store bought pizza. I also boiled some new potatoes, cooled and sliced them to add to the pizza, with Sriracha. So tomorrow I'll begin with eating some veg this week that's not yellow courgettes or coloured cauliflour. I guess I could count the potatoes (I know they're not strictly speaking a vegetable)
Grapes and a Toblerone.
The usual breakfast. More coffee.
Lunch was a spicy Caribbean vegie pattie with chilli tomato sauce.
The rest of the gnocchi with slow fried cherry tomatoes, corn and the last of the roasted purple califlour with creme fraiche and grated cheese to sauce it up, seasoning - garlic, pepper, salt, a squeeze of Sriracha.
Those wonderfully sweet Turkish grapes with a Toblerone.
Wednesday
The usual breakfast.
Lunch with a friend. Amazingly they had sweet corn fritters which is what I'd felt like for dinner last night, but hadn't made. The coffee was good too. We were at Pavilon Café in Victoria Park. Go.
The other half of the store bought pizza with added potato and Sriracha.
Lots of grapes, I think I'm addicted. I remembered I had Turron in the cupboard that a friend had given me. Right.
Thursday
The usual breakfast.
A bought quality fish cake with roasted very thinly sliced beetroot fries, and more regularly sized pumpkin and potato chips, a garlic bulb. Anything but cauliflour! Though I saw a great recipe I'd like to try.
I'm sure there were more grapes and chocolate. And turron, after all nuts are good for you.
Friday
The usual breakfast. More coffee.
A slice of toast with hommous. Some figs as big as my hand (I have small hands but still, they were massive.)
The staple toasted sandwich with fried halloumi, egg, gherkin, tomatoes, mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce. I had hommous too which livened it up.
Grapes and the last of the turron.
Saturday
The usual breakfast. More coffee.
Went to visit a nearby community garden as part of Edible Open Gardens Day. Ahem. I could not find the entrance. After rechecking the location and walking all the way round the block I shook my head and jumped on a bike to Broadway Market. I only had a quick 15 min window due to my Open House schedule. Strike 2 - there were no available docking spots anywhere nearby so I had to cycle home grocery-less on the same bike. Thankfully there was no strike 3 as I did make it on to the tour I was aiming for.
Had to buy a wrap late afternoon to stave off light headedness.
Hommous, check. Pringles (usually I buy Kettle chips but once in a blue moon its these), check. Bring on Peter Capaldi!
The other fish cake with roasted vegie chips: beetroot fries, and more regularly sized butternut and potato chips, a garlic bulb. Love roasted garlic.
Grapes and smarties. I'm over my Daim bar addiction, which means I'm back to wanting a chocolate bar to eat in the evening, but being bored with them all.
The usual breakfast.
A coffee at my local coffee shop.
I was feeling spectacularly uninspired about cooking dinner so I settled on an old fave: egg fried rice with spicy tofu and vegies. I always cook rice with the absorption as it's almost fail-proof, and gives such good results. For vegies I had fresh spinach, broccoli, aubergine and sweet corn.
Some grapes, some smarties chocolate...
