Week 15: (mostly) Slow in London by our community manager
Monday
The usual breakfast of a boiled egg with or without E5 Bakehouse sourdough toast, and a cup of Colombian coffee with raw milk.
A very good vegie brunch at Pavilon Cafe.
The other half of the store bought pizza. I also boiled some new potatoes, cooled and sliced them to add to the pizza, with Sriracha. Last of the blackberry cake with clotted cream, still moist and delicious. By they way I didn't eat all the depicted cake in one go. That photo was taken earlier.
Tuesday
The usual breakfast.
Starting a new job so made my lunch: a sourdough sandwich with hommous, tomato and Jarlsberg. In Australia, Jarlsberg is quite pricey and in our family was bought occasionally as a treat, mum loves it. I was so surprised at its reasonable price in the UK, but of course that makes sense.
I'd noted I had a good half a tub of good creme fraiche I needed to use. So I made an old fave, spelt spaghetti with a spinach and cream sauce: I fried up a red onion, chilli and garlic, and then added the 2 bunches of fresh spinach, creme fraiche, and grated cheese.
Wednesday
The usual breakfast.
Home made sandwich with sourdough, hommous, tomato and Jarlsberg.
Pizza after the wonderful Harold McGee lecture at Senate House, a building I love. Later there would have been chocolate involved. Oh yes. It was Lindt's Creme Brulee, tried for the first time.. Hmmm. Well, there are other flavours I prefer.
Thursday
The usual breakfast.
Home made sandwich with sourdough, hommous, tomato and Jarlsberg.
Was at an exhibition opening which was catered for and the catering was very good. I had an espresso martini, an Asahi, a bucket of chips with skin still on, and 2 brioche buns with halloumi, and finished off with hazelnut icecream which tasted like Nutella. Win!
Friday
Forgot to buy eggs last night so had toast with cheese and tomato and a coffee.
A bought brown roll with tuna, egg and coleslaw, another coffee.
Finally made it to Pizza East. Fantastic garlic bread, good pizza, and delicious burrata with figs and wonderful balsamic, oh yeah. Pint of Peroni.
A few vodkas out dancing.
Saturday
Toast with cheese and tomato and a coffee.
Spinach canolli at a nighboyrhood caf.
Baked another cake! Banana and chocolate, lots of, 100 g of Green and Black's 70%. It was moist but not as moist as I would have liked. Maybe I needed more and riper bananas. I ate 3 slices after dinner, it's 1 of my 5 a day, right?
The staple toasted sandwich with fried halloumi, egg, gherkin, tomatoes, mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce. I had hommous too which livened it up.
Sunday
Fried egg roll, coffee and wheat beer out.
Cooked dinner for friends: an old fave I've been cooking for 20 years - spanna copita with fresh & frozen spinach and secret ingredient tofu) . It's sweet with sweet chilli sauce. Served wth roast beetroot, yellow caulliflour, potatoes and tomatoes.
For dessert served the cake with vanilla ice cream.
